Welcome dunk3d readers!

With my tumblr and my new site there didn’t seem to be much point in keeping my wordpress blog alive but I imported the old posts here and dunk3d.com should now redirect to this site. Maybe it’ll be useful one day. Until then, expect similarly infrequent posts.

Hey, while I’m blogging here’s an interview I did with Tiny Cartridge about the Warioware DIY project I never mentioned on this blog. Oh and back in September of last year I finished another supercut. Hopefully there will be some more up-to-date news later this year which you are much more likely to see on my tumblr or twitter.

Three Point Landing

Updated with Vimeo version, ROFLCon panel, links and source list.

My latest supercut which premiered at ROFLCon III in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The soundtrack and more great music by my brother Joel can be found on his bandcamp page.

I’ve been getting a few YouTube comments asking for a list of where all the clips came from so I’ll put that at the end of this post. Apologies if you’ve been waiting for this or if I missed your favourite three point landing. If you see a new one, please leave a comment here or add it to the TV tropes page. Maybe I’ll revisit this supercut one day.

Tumbleweeds and ROFLCon

Here’s an appropriate video for my blog which hasn’t seen an update in almost a year.

In December last year I made this supercut for the Columbus Museum of Art. It’s currently showing there as part of their Currents series. I’ll write a more detailed post on it soon.

In related news, I have been invited to appear at ROFLCon III in May, where I will be on Andy Baio’s supercuts panel. Really excited about this. I’m working on a new supercut for the occasion.

Follow me on twitter and tumblr for more regular updates. If all goes to plan, I’ll be graduating from Animation Mentor in the summer so I’ll post some of my animation work here soon.

Animation Mentor – Class 2

Six months in to my Animation Mentor course and I’ve reached the end of class 2. My previs job in London is over and I’m now back in San Francisco taking a 3 month leave of absence from AM to get married. If I have time amongst all the planning I’ll be starting a small animation project of my own to keep what I’ve learnt so far from trickling out of my brain.

Animation Mentor – Class 1 – Week 7

Animation Mentor – Class 1 – Week 7 from Duncan Robson on Vimeo.

I was planning on posting my AM work every week but I’ve been so busy with work and moving recently, that would mean spending less time on the assignment.

I’ll post a progress reel at the end of each term with the odd extra bit like Tailor here. I was quite happy with how this one turned out. Could use a bit more polishing but there’s no time, got to move on to the next assignment…

Basic Foundations: Week 1

Class 1 of Animation Mentor has begun and almost immediately, I am offered a job! I’ll talk about it more in a future post but it means I’m moving to the outskirts of London for 6 months. I had to change my Q&A time from 3pm to 6am so I was lucky enough to have 2 Q&A sessions this week with different mentors. A really interesting mix of students in both groups.

Nothing to show you yet but I’m excited about the rest of the term.

Animation Mentor

Animation School

I’m back in the UK for a while and I’ve just been accepted as a student at Animation Mentor which is a great online school I discovered while I was in San Francisco. If you’re reading this, you are probably also an AM student, so hi!

Over the next 18 months, if I can succesfully juggle my animation schooling with work, I will use this blog to document my transformation from motion editor/crowd TD to ANIMATOR.

This new focus should result in more regular updates on this blog starting with bouncing balls and progressing to characters and acting. Eventually, if all goes well, I’ll have an awesome new animation reel when I graduate. Hopefully I’ll still have time for the occasional silly sideline which I’ll stick on my tumblr. I’m also @dunkr on twitter.

Update

A couple of Clash of the Titans shots added to my reel. These were from promotional clips; there will be a few more shots to add when the DVD is out. Sadly my biggest crowd shot was cut from the finished film. It was pretty epic, with 10,000+ soldiers walking up a volcano getting blasted by fireballs and lightning. Maybe it’ll be on the DVD extras. Continue reading
